| Maquet to replace Forbes as Ingram’s EMEA boss |

Distribution giant Ingram Micro has appointed Alain Maquet as president of its EMEA operation effective July 1st 2009. Maquet is replacing current EMEA president Jay Forbes who is resigning from the company at the end of June and returning to his native Canada. Maquet, currently president of Ingram Micro Latin America, has vast experience of the European market. In his new EMEA role, Maquet will continue to report to Alain Monie, president and COO at Ingram Micro.

Latvia-based distribution giant Elko has announced a partnership with Lenovo in the Ukraine. Under the terms of the deal, Elko has become an official in-country distributor of Lenovo notebooks. Elko reckons that the deal will allow it to offer a wider range of products to channel customers in the Ukraine at more competitive prices.

| Russian authority launches case against A-brand vendors |

Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has launched a case against notebook vendors Acer, Asustek, Toshiba, HP, Samsung and Dell. FAS Russia claims that the vendors violated competition law by not giving consumers enough opportunity to use an operating system apart from Microsoft.

| Trend Micro opens Moscow office |

Security outfit Trend Micro has signalled its long-term commitment to the Russian market by opening its first in-country office in Moscow. Trend Micro reckons that Russia, which it claims is now the third largest IT market in EMEA, forms part of the vendor’s long-term strategic vision of taking its smart protection network solution to a new market with unmet security needs.
